I have had the joy of working as a registered psychologist since 1996.
Therapy, to me, is a collaborative journey that uncovers the deep strengths that we hold within. Sometimes the twists and turns of life leave us stuck or force us onto unexpected paths in life that compel us to explore the deeper recesses of who we are. Clients come to see me when they are experiencing difficulties in relationships, struck by traumatic events or past relationships or are feeling directionless and seeking a greater sense of satisfaction. I see my job as one of guidance and support to help you find your way through the unexpected and undesired to a place of peace, contentment, strength and direction. It is a privilege to witness the tremendous growth of spirit that comes through as my clients move beyond the impact of the trauma in their lives and discover their own amazing resources.
I am fascinated by the role of imagery and new discoveries in neuroscience about how our brains and bodies work. I have training in eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) and advanced integrative therapy, emotional freedom technique, the Gottman marital therapy system, solution-focused therapy, narrative and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). I enjoy helping families, couples and individuals move beyond the impact that trauma, anxiety and depression have on their relationships and sense of self.
My work over the past 20+ years has been with adolescents, couples, families, immigrant women, students and communities. I have worked on employment, survivor support programs and anger management and counselling with community organizations, the City of Calgary, Mount Royal University, College of the Rockies, employee assistance firms and the International Red Cross. I have done extensive research on the role of imagery for performance enhancement, and am a founding board member for the LEAD Foundation, an organization that works with families of children with autistic spectrum disorders.
I have worked in Japan, Panama and the U.K. and enjoy the outdoors with my husband and three children.
